Preschool

Holy Trinity Preschool is a half-day program for children ages two to five years old. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 3:00pm. The school provides a distinctive curriculum with child-centered, developmentally appropriate learning activities in Reading, Language Arts, Math, Computer Literacy, Science, Cultural Awareness, Reading, Writing, SpanishArt, Music/Movement and Physical Fitness.  Our prevailing philosophy is that learning activities should be functional, stimulate the children’s thinking and creativity, promote social competency, involve choice, and instill a positive attitude toward learning.

Curriculum

The curriculum is aligned with NC Standard Course of Study For Kindergarten and embodies Foundations, the Early Learning Standards for North Carolina Preschoolers published by the North Carolina Department of Public Education.  While there are numerous guidelines published by independent organizations, most notably the NAEYC, Foundations is dedicated to North Carolina’s Preschoolers and draws upon the experience and knowledge of parents and a diverse group of early childhood professionals.  Foundations provides a common set of objectives for a student’s development and define unique strategies for both teachers and parents to help students meet these objectives.

Classroom Format

The classroom is divided into learning centers where a variety of hands-on materials and meaningful activities are available for the children. Centers are designed to meet specific academic goals and are both curriculum-oriented (math, science, writing, etc.) and theme-based (Fire Safety, Family, etc.). Students will routinely work in small groups to actively practice, apply, and extend skills and concepts introduced during circle or group time.

During circle and group time, the teacher initiates discussions about various topics, special themes, or group projects. Children learn through singing, movement, show and tell, and story time. Emphasis is placed on helping the children learn how to follow directions, problem solving / predicting outcomes, and promoting listening skills and self-expression. At times, speakers will be invited to share a special skill or cultural tradition.

Summer Camps

The school sponsors a variety of week long camps for rising Pre-K threes through 4th grade elementary students. Click on the link for a list of camps, dates, and registration information.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is a half-day program that includes instruction in Language and Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Art, Music, and Physical Education. The curriculum is consistent with Wake County Public School Standard Course of Study for Kindergarten.  Children’s progress will be measured throughout the school year using the WCPSS Kindergarten Assessment to ensure that the children meet the proficiency standards established by WCPSS. Assessments will be administered and documented by the teacher with oversight by a currently employed first grade Wake County Public School Teacher. The classroom will be organized around learning centers as well as teacher directed instruction.

Registration

Registration for Fall 2010 Enrollment begins in early January.  Currently enrolled students and their siblings will be given first priority. Open enrollment will begin in late January. Each applicant will be charged a nonrefundable registration fee. A copy of the child's birth certificate and the registration fee must accompany the child's application to secure the child's enrollment.

Consistent with Wake County Public School policies regarding age limits, the applicant will be enrolled in the two-, three-, four-year old, transitional Kindergarten, or Kindergarten program based on their age as of August 31 of the school year.
